Birthday Time

I am getting older.  I can’t stand for many hours without my back and feet hurting.  True story.
I found  myself on Sunday night eating a lovely home cooked Dinner with a earl gray chocolate donut afterwards.  I must have been a good Birthday girl because Matthew surprised me with a Cuisinart food processor (omg! i immediately made salsa at 1AM), a bamboo chopping board, Victorinox Chef’s Knife Set, Nyan cat cuteness and a Kindle! The Brooklyn Library was recently set up so that I can check out my books digitally in e-book form, I’m so excited.

Want to know a story? While taking a walk yesterday Matthew asked me “Guess your presents”.  My first guess was: a knife set, Second guess: food processor.  I’m a awesome guesser.

Of course he found the wrapping paper immediately.

Cheese Ravioli and Meatballs

A few nights ago we had some decent cheese ravioli, I can’t take credit as they were pre-made mini raviolis from Trader Joe’s.  I didn’t think it was going to be filling enough though so I quickly  made some homemade meatballs which Matthew tells me was the best part of the meal.  I thought they were pretty darn good too.

Halloween: Clowning Around

It’s probably no surprise that we are Halloween crazy.  The decorations, the treats.. then the costumes!  What are you doing this year? I made a list on Facebook of possible costumes but I finally decided: a clown.  Now, don’t get the wrong idea, we’re not talking cheap clown suit with horrible red wig… we’re talking a clown suit I bought off a real clown, a nickname I have created for  myself, and some tricks up  my sleeve (hehehe).  We have girls dress up as clowns alot in our work and I’m always incredibly jealous of that style, so I’m going to have alot of fun with this.

My biggest obstacle so far was finding good clown shoes.  The only clown shoes I could find were either 1) ugly and plain 2) professional – I think spending $100 on halloween clown shoes might be too crazy (even though I thought about it).  So I decided to get some simple green ones and put  my own magic on it.  Clowns have to have happy feet!  Also, clown shoes are a bit hard to walk in, my cats are all scared of the sound of me walking around in them (because you know I did that all day long for fun).

:) How I will spend this evening..

I got a early birthday present tonight from Matthew, a surprise in fact! Our showerhead has been replaced with this 6 setting massage showerhead.  Everytime we stay in a hotel I always “oooh” and “aaaah” at the massage settings but we never upgrade our 1 setting standard showerhead. Well now folks, if you need me I’ll be getting rid of my tension headaches with some water pressure.   My shower time has now been extended by a few minutes.

Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf?  I’m reading this now for the 2nd time.. . Fact: Plays are one of my favorite genres.

And all will be celebrated with some English Breakfast tea, my favorite.

Enjoy your night. :)

Pizza Casserole

Last night I made pizza casserole and it was everything dreams of pepperoni and cheese are made from!
Mix delicious egg noodles with pizza sauce, ground beef, garlic, green peppers, pepperoni, milk and put some mozzarella cheese on top.  You will find yourself in pure delight.

Apple Cider

We had some apples left over from the apple orchard adventure so before they go bad I decided to make some cold apple cider – I love this stuff.
It’s super easy to make – cut up your apples into quarters (just cut the seeds out – dont peel your apples!) and add water, sugar, cinnamon and allspice. Boil for one hour, then cover and simmer for 2 hours.  Strain twice and refrigerate.  It’s that easy!

Drying Herbs

Obsession currently: drying herbs
Basically any hook I can find I will dry basil, parsley, oregano on.  Only a little bit of time left for growing season so gotta get them dried out.  I do the natural way of drying, just wash them off and hang them up.  They’ll turn crisp in about 2 weeks and then you can crumble and put in a jar. :)

Animals

I made friends with a bunch of animals while home too – can you imagine that?

There’s Anastasia, the Persian kitty who rubbed against me and jumped in my arms.  There’s the neighborhood kitty who appeared on my Dad’s roof  meowing for me to come out.  Eventually I did (right away) and we kissed and rubbed bellies.  For the next few days the kitty appeared at the doorstep  looking for me, I was in love. Then there’s Dakota, my sister’s friendly pup who  likes belly rubs.

More furry lovelies behind the cut.
