Brother has been wheezing lately. It started a few weeks ago and then continued to now he does it multiple times a day. It basically sounds like this. We bought a air purifier right away thinking there was something in the air, but it continued. So then I came to the conclusion that I thought it was asthma or something worse, so he went to the vet yesterday. Thankfully they were able to get him in for a emergency visit when I told them the symptoms. So off Brother Bear went in his stroller. Let me just tell you about his stroller, it’s amazing. Do you want to walk 20 blocks carrying a cat case? No. Brother is 14 pounds and my arms are weak. So this stroller lets him relax, feel some wind in his whiskers and enjoy a smooth ride to the vet. If you live in the city, I’d recommend it! Yes, you get strange looks, but that’s part of the journey.

So then we go to the vet, the first nurse, a lovely young man asked if he was friendly. Well, not really. To us he’s a perfect gentleman who gives kisses, snuggles with you and is the baby of the family. But to a vet who Brother Bear suspects where the thermometer is going, nah, he’s not really friendly and wants to rip your face off. Brother Bear quickly senses danger and has been known to make past vets bleed, throw their needles across the room, make nurses frightened where they whisper outside the room that they are scared to touch him (I can hear them). But honestly, he’s a nice guy, a gentle giant! So when we told him he wasn’t all that friendly, he didn’t really believe us because Brother let him pet him and rub his cheeks. Then came the thermometer into yeah, that spot. Brother Bear hardly even flinched, I was kinda shocked. Has Brother Bear finally gotten over the fear of the vet? Was he making me out to be a liar? Was he trying to be super strong because Matthew, his papa, was there? Was he now a calm big bear? No, not at all. When the doctor came in to examine him, the nurse held him down not expecting it, then suddenly the nurse basically said the hulk was about to come out and he had to let him go immediately, grab gloves because his muscles were tensing. So quickly gloves:
This by the way was just part of examining Brother, feeling his belly, looking into his ears, attempting to look into his mouth where Brother Bear quickly just bit the stick.
The doctor decided they were going to give him some shots. Also would we want his nails trimmed? I nervously laughed. Yes, sure. You see, every single vet has failed at this, some have even declined that they can’t do it. Brother Bear doesn’t like his nails touched. He’s growing them out.
So as soon as they left the room to prepare, he ran under my chair because he knows his Mama is going to keep him safe.
His starfish too:
So then came back in the doctor and a nurse, and then suddenly another nurse. So 3 people, to hold down 14 pounds of Brother Bear fluff.
And then this experience started. They wrapped 2 towels around his head like they were committing a war crime, then the nurses wore the strong gloves. At one point the nurse said Brother Bear was biting into his palm. Yup, he was biting through the glove. I saw the glove said: “Cat, Meow!”. True.
So they gave him 2 shots in the back, one was a steroid injection because they think it’s asthma and we’ll see if this cures this. The other was a prevention shot incase it is something worse, so this will make sure he doesn’t get anything like pneumonia or the like. Well I have to say, it worked. Brother Bear has not wheezed once in the last 24 hours! YAY! In fact, he’s laying here on my toes, looking up at me like a perfect gentleman.
Also, he got every single nail trimmed, front and back! Man, you should have heard him. He sounded like he wanted to kill and the doctor/nurses looked very alarmed. It took some time, but they got them all. On the bill it’s listed as “manicure”. Hah.
Brother Bear is wrapped in this towel. So, Brother Bear seems to be better already. Looks like it’s a case of asthma or some other allergen. Time will tell if this will turn into a yearly event of giving him pills or shots, or maybe it will be gone completely. But Brother Bear, what a good boy you were! Mama is so proud of you. <3
Seriously, you have to do a weekly Brother Bear story – I liked this one a lot!
Awww, glad you liked it. <3
